Accessibility Statement
Last updated: [INSERT DATE BEFORE PUBLICATION]
Hawthorn & Key Ltd aims to make its website welcoming and practical to use.
A website should not become a locked door simply because somebody reads, navigates or interacts with it differently. We are working to make the Hawthorn & Key shop and journal easier to use for as many people as reasonably possible.
Our approach to accessibility
We aim to consider accessibility as the website develops, including when we add new pages, products, images, forms and checkout features.
We want visitors to be able to:
- browse the shop and journal with clear navigation;
- read content with a logical heading structure;
- understand product information before placing an order;
- use the basket and checkout as easily as reasonably possible;
- contact us if a barrier makes it difficult to access information or complete a purchase;
- request reasonable assistance where appropriate.
Accessibility standard
We are using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines as a practical reference while the website is developed and reviewed.
[CONFIRM WCAG TARGET AFTER TESTING]
We do not currently claim that every page, plugin or third-party feature fully conforms to a particular WCAG level. The website is still being reviewed and improved.
What we are working to improve
As the site develops, we aim to pay particular attention to:
- clear page headings and readable text;
- meaningful alternative text for informative images;
- keyboard navigation;
- visible focus indicators;
- appropriate colour contrast;
- understandable form labels and error messages;
- clear link wording;
- responsive layouts for mobile devices;
- tables that remain usable on smaller screens;
- product descriptions that explain relevant details in text rather than relying only on images;
- checkout steps that remain as simple and understandable as reasonably possible.
Known limitations
The Hawthorn & Key website is still being developed and tested.
Some accessibility limitations may remain, particularly where a page or feature depends on a third-party plugin, payment interface, embedded service or externally supplied product information.
[INSERT KNOWN ACCESSIBILITY LIMITATIONS AFTER TESTING]
If you encounter a difficulty that is not listed here, please let us know. A problem may be easier to correct once we understand how it affects a real visitor.
Third-party services
Some parts of the website may depend on services provided by other organisations, such as payment processing, delivery tracking, embedded content or external links.
We aim to choose suitable services and provide clear information, but we may not control every aspect of an external website or third-party interface.
If a third-party feature prevents you from completing an order or accessing important information, please contact us. We will consider whether a reasonable alternative is available.
Requesting assistance
If you find it difficult to use part of the website, please contact us.
Depending on the situation, we may be able to:
- explain product information in a clearer format;
- provide information by email;
- help clarify an order, delivery or return question;
- provide a reasonable alternative where a website feature is not accessible;
- review a page that is difficult to navigate or understand.
We cannot ask you to send full bank card details, passwords or one-time banking verification codes by email. Payment security still applies when we provide assistance.
Alternative formats
If you need information from this website in a different format, please tell us what would be helpful.
For example, you may request:
- a clearer plain-text version of important information;
- product details by email;
- an explanation of a delivery, return or safety page;
- assistance understanding a form or checkout step.
We will consider reasonable requests and explain what we can provide.
How to report an accessibility problem
If you encounter an accessibility problem, please email hello@hawthornandkey.co.uk with the subject line Accessibility enquiry.
You can also use our Contact page and select Accessibility enquiry.
It is helpful if you include:
- the page address or page title;
- a short description of the problem;
- the device and browser you were using where relevant;
- the type of assistance or alternative format that may help;
- your order number if the problem relates to an existing order.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility enquiries within 2 working days.
Feedback
Accessibility is an ongoing process rather than a single finished task.
If something on the Hawthorn & Key website is difficult to read, navigate or understand, your feedback is welcome. It may help us improve the experience for other visitors as well.
