Hawthorn & Key is an online journal devoted to British folklore, local legends, seasonal customs, symbolic objects, old houses, hedgerows and the quieter rituals of everyday life.
The journal is published under the name The Hawthorn Archive.
Is Hawthorn & Key still an online shop?
No. Hawthorn & Key is currently an online journal rather than an active online shop.
The website may later sell its own books, printed editions, digital editions or related publications, but ordinary product sales are not currently the focus of the site.
Why do some older pages mention a shop?
The website has been repositioned from a shop-and-journal model to a journal-first model.

Do your articles present folklore as fact?
No. We aim to distinguish clearly between folklore, historical context, interpretation and established fact.
Old beliefs remain worth exploring because they tell us something about place, memory and imagination. They do not need to be presented as proven facts in order to remain interesting.
Is Hawthorn & Key an occult website?
Hawthorn & Key is a folklore and symbolism journal. Some articles discuss witchcraft history, divination, charms, omens, spirits, fairies, ghosts, ritual objects and related traditions because these subjects belong to British folklore and cultural history.
