Anne Boleyn’s Ghost at the Tower of London
A record in The Hawthorn Archive, preserving folklore with its place, type and source context attached.
Later ghost tradition repeatedly returns Anne Boleyn to the Tower of London, where she was imprisoned and executed in 1536. Versions place her apparition near Tower Green, the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula or in a spectral procession towards the chapel.
Anne’s imprisonment, execution and burial at the Tower are documented history. The apparition belongs to later tradition and should not be presented as Tudor eyewitness testimony.
