The Grey Lady of Treasurer’s House
A record in The Hawthorn Archive, preserving folklore with its place, type and source context attached.
Alongside the Roman-soldier tradition, Treasurer’s House has reports of a “grey lady” seen in rooms. The National Trust also records stories in which children appeared to react to a woman whom accompanying adults could not see.
Unlike the Roman figures, this apparition is not securely tied to a named historical resident. Its archive value lies in repeated modern reporting attached to the same domestic interior, not in a proven biographical identification.
